Jakarta, April 21, 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy, in collaboration with Google Asia Pacific, officially launched the Google Play x Unity Game Developer Training program. The launch event took place at Thamrin Nine Ballroom Gold, Jakarta, on Monday, April 21, 2025.

This launch represents the government’s commitment to boosting the growth of the national creative economy, creating quality jobs, and supporting the development of creative talents and the gaming industry.
In his remarks, Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized the important role of the creative industry as a pillar of President Prabowo Subianto’s mission to create quality employment opportunities.
“The creative economy, as a new engine of growth, has become a global barometer of creative development by elevating Indonesia’s cultural values, artistic expression, local wisdom, and talent to the world stage,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky.
According to data from Yuzu, the Indonesian gaming industry’s market value has reached USD 2 billion, making Indonesia the largest gaming market in Southeast Asia, fourth in Asia, and 15th globally. With 148 million active players, the potential for this industry to grow remains very promising.
“The Ministry of Creative Economy has eight Asta Ekraf as priority programs. Today’s launch is solid proof of synergy between the government, associations, and the private sector — in this case, Google Play and Unity. Creative economy talent development is part of our effort to enhance industry players’ capacity through training and certification,” added Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky.

The Google Play x Unity Game Developer Training program is a six-month self-paced training that provides premium access to Unity software learning, international-level game development training, exposure to artificial intelligence (AI) technology, as well as mentorship and internship or job opportunities for participants.
The program aims to train 500 local game developers to meet global standards. Upon completion, participants will receive official certification from Google and Unity, strengthening their professional profiles in the industry.
Karen Toa, Vice President of Platforms and Devices Partnerships at Google Asia Pacific, expressed optimism about the Indonesian market.
“In 2023, Indonesian game developers generated more than IDR 2.14 trillion. There are 33,800 active apps on Google Play developed by 10,400 Indonesian developers. This program aims to enhance local skills so they can compete globally and leverage emerging technologies such as AI,” she said.
She added that Google aims to help produce more game developers from Indonesia and connect them with international markets. “We believe that Indonesia has extraordinary potential in the digital creative economy,” said Karen.

The event was also attended by stakeholders from Google, including Kunal Soni (Director, Scaled Partner Management & Ecosystem Partnerships, Google Play Asia Pacific), Putri Alam (Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Google Indonesia), Agung Pamungkas (Manager of Government Affairs & Public Policy, Google Indonesia), Giuseppe Stasolla (Ecosystem Lead, Google Play Southeast Asia), and Shafiq Husein (Chairman of the Indonesian Game Association).
From the Ministry of Creative Economy, Minister Teuku Riefky was accompanied by Deputy Minister Irene Umar, Secretary of the Ministry Dessy Ruhayati, Deputy for Digital Economy and Creative Products Muhammad Neil El Himam, Deputy for Media Agustini Rahayu, and Director of Games Luat S.P. Sihombing.
