Ministry of Creative Economy Reinforces Commitment to Elevate Local IPs, Presents a Series of Activations Through the Independence Day Carnival

Jakarta, 17 August 2025 – The Ministry of Creative Economy celebrated Indonesia’s Independence Day by presenting more than 50 local Intellectual Properties (IPs) at the Independence Day Carnival marking the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. The collaboration with TransJakarta, Kembu Club, and dozens of creators reflects the government’s commitment to fostering Indonesian creative works to compete globally. Characters such as Aphu the “Avocado Salaryman,” Juki, and Milk Mocha took part in enlivening the celebration, showcasing the richness and diversity of Indonesia’s creative ecosystem.

Kementerian Ekraf Berkomitmen Dukung IP Lokal Makin Dikenal, Hadirkan Ragam Aktivasi Lewat Karnaval Kemerdekaan, Jakarta, Minggu (17/08/2025).

“The series of events commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia, enlivened through collaborative activations with local IPs, serves as a moment that reflects the nation’s creativity for unity, sovereignty, prosperity, and progress,” said the Minister of Creative Economy on Sunday, 17 August 2025.

The Ministry of Economy Creative continues to encourage collaboration with local IPs as valuable assets that can be developed and commercialized to increase economic added value.

This effort began with the collaboration between the Ministry of Economy Creative and Kembu Club, founded by creative duo Gira (Thessa) and Arvy Ewaldo, which became one of the official IPs featured in the 80th Independence Day logo. Its iconic character, Aphu the “Avocado Salaryman,” is a distinctive avocado office-worker character. Kembu Club is also well known for merchandise featuring characters inspired by cartoons, games, and other pop-culture media.

The next collaboration was carried out with PT Transportasi Jakarta (TransJakarta), presenting seven local IPs displayed across seven TransJakarta bus fleets. This collaboration connects creative economy practitioners as public transportation users, allowing them to experience firsthand the creative expression of Indonesia’s creators.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar stated that the Ministry of Creative Economy support for local IPs also aims to stimulate a rapidly expanding and increasingly diverse creative ecosystem.

“The Ministry of Creative Economy consistently provides strong support for local IPs to encourage a more inclusive creative ecosystem. We believe every local IP carries great potential, and through the creative process, can produce creative economy products or works that continue to grow,” said the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy.

The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy added that the most exciting collaboration in the 80th Independence Day series was the appearance of more than 50 local IPs representing various ministries and institutions during the Independence Day Carnival. Each ministry or institution decorated their carnival vehicles according to the IP characters they selected, creating decorations that were unique, relevant, and creative. Some of the featured IPs included Desa Timun, Don Jumbo, Juki, Kata Emak, Milk Mocha, Tuti, Beemala, Punopals, Fun Cican, and many more.

This creative collaboration initiative to promote local IPs aligns with the vision of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, which positions the creative economy as a national priority, enabling the development of local IPs to compete on the global stage. The presence of local IPs as part of the 80th Independence Day celebration encourages domestic creators to produce characters that can go global while strengthening public pride in original Indonesian creative works. This celebration transforms Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day not only into a public festivity, but also into a golden moment to appreciate and advance the creative industry. Merdeka!
