Jakarta, January 17, 2025 – While art is invaluable in terms of material worth, the sustainability of the art industry relies on economic considerations. This is where the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency steps in, aiming to ensure that creative works hold economic value to support their continued growth.

This discussion took place during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar and the ARTJOG team at Menara Merdeka Building, Jakarta, on Friday, January 17, 2025. Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene appreciated ARTJOG's success in the art scene.
"We want to learn from ARTJOG's success, understand its concept, and adapt it in other cities while exploring collaboration opportunities to enhance the creative economy through art. This can help strengthen Yogyakarta as a destination and boost Indonesia’s creative economy," said Irene.
Irene also shared ideas for increasing the economic value of art exhibitions and sales by introducing licensed standards. This approach would enable artists to earn royalties and increase their income.

"I propose enhancing the economic value by not only selling original artworks but also offering licensed reproductions. For instance, artists could earn royalties—such as 10 percent of the selling price—while making art more accessible to the public," said Irene, who was accompanied by Yuke Sri Rahayu, Deputy for Cultural and Design Creativity at Ministry of Creative Economy.

In response, Heri Pemad, Founder of ARTJOG, emphasized the importance of active government support in strengthening Indonesia's art ecosystem. He noted that collaboration between the government and art practitioners could significantly enhance the industry's economic value.
"Active government involvement is crucial for supporting Indonesia's art ecosystem, which will help improve infrastructure, expand market access, and strengthen creative industry regulations," said Heri Pemad.
