Jakarta, June 5, 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency continues to promote the development of adaptive artificial intelligence (AI) governance that supports creative economy practitioners. To this end, the Ministry of Creative Economy, in collaboration with Microsoft and AMANA Solutions, held a focus group discussion (FGD) titled “AI and the Future of Indonesia’s Creative Economy: Between Innovation, Governance, and Fairness for Creators” on Thursday (June 4).
Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Muhammad Neil El Himam, delivered remarks at the focus group discussion (FGD) held in collaboration with Microsoft and AMANA Solutions titled “AI and the Future of Indonesia’s Creative Economy: Between Innovation, Governance, and Fairness for Creators,” Jakarta, Thursday (June 4, 2026).
Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, emphasized that AI presents significant opportunities to enhance productivity and create new avenues within the creative economy. However, its utilization must be accompanied by governance mechanisms that safeguard creators’ rights.
“Therefore, the government is encouraging both the strengthening of human resource capabilities and the development of balanced AI governance that ensures protection while fostering innovation,” said Minister Teuku Riefky.
To support this effort, Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Muhammad Neil El Himam, explained that the Ministry is currently preparing a number of strategic initiatives to support the adoption of AI within the creative economy sector. These initiatives include improving AI literacy and ethics, drafting Guidelines for AI Utilization in the Creative Economy, and developing an AI Sandbox as a testing environment for responsible AI implementation.

Neil added that the government is also drafting a Copyright Bill, a Presidential Regulation on the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap, and a Presidential Regulation on AI Ethics as the foundation for the responsible development and utilization of AI.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Indonesia AI Skills Director, Arief Suseno, emphasized that the FGD could contribute positively to shaping Indonesia’s artificial intelligence policy direction.
“Several major trading partners such as China, the European Union, and the United States have already integrated AI considerations into their copyright regulations. However, through this FGD, Indonesia has the opportunity to formulate policies that are not merely catching up, but are far more contextual and adaptive to the needs of the national creative industry,” said Arief.
