Jakarta, 21 November 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency reinforced the government’s commitment to developing high-quality creative talent through a strategic collaboration with Sampoerna University. The meeting, held at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, on 21 November 2025, aimed to strengthen synergy between academia and the creative industry, focusing on developing human resources who not only master technical skills but also transform culturally rooted creative ideas into tangible economic value.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, emphasized that universities play a strategic role in preparing creative talent with strong technical competencies capable of converting ideas into economic value.
“This collaboration encourages the development of creative talent and culture-based innovation. Additionally, it helps create high-quality jobs, making Indonesia’s creative ecosystem increasingly resilient as the new engine of growth,” said the Deputy Minister, following her participation in the campus Studium Generale on 15 October 2025.
Sampoerna University presented its internationally standardized educational model emphasizing hands-on learning, storytelling, and monetization of creative ideas through a from character to commerce approach, aimed at transforming cultural narratives and characters into creative economy products. The Visual Communication Design program serves as a key driver, including the cultural IP project Katha Rakyat, which originated from folklore research and has generated revenue through exhibitions and collaborations with MSMEs.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Surya Danusaputra Liman, highlighted the alignment of vision between the university and the Ministry of Ekraf in nurturing creative talent who understand culture, storytelling, and market dynamics, and expressed readiness to expand collaboration through research, content production, and industrial practice programs.
The discussion also covered opportunities for collaboration through show competitions and light shows across ministries in strategic locations, including airports and cultural destinations, with student involvement in practical industry projects. National and international student exchanges further support cultural research and documentation of local heritage as a strategic government asset.
The Ministry of Creative Economy emphasized that synergy with higher education institutions is key to producing a generation of creative professionals capable of generating new value for the economy. Follow-up initiatives will focus on strengthening human resource capacity and collaborative models that accelerate the growth of Indonesia’s creative ecosystem.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Creative Economy Human Resources Development Center, Siamwahyuni.
