Jakarta, 30 April, 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency is strengthening the exposure of animation works by students and university students through its support for the WAINI International Student Animation Festival Vol. 6 in Yogyakarta. This initiative is part of the Ministry’s strategy to position the animation subsector as one of the new engines of national economic growth.

The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency is strengthening the exposure of animation works by students and university students through its support for the WAINI International Student Animation Festival Vol. 6 in Yogyakarta.

Data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM in 2025 recorded that the film, animation, and video sector reached a value of IDR 2.15 trillion. This figure reflects significant potential in generating added value and employment opportunities.

The Deputy for Media Creativity at the Ministry of Creative Economy, Cecep Rukendi, stated that the festival serves as an important platform to expand the reach of young creators’ works. According to him, the animation ecosystem must be strengthened through collaboration among communities, universities, and creative industry players.

“The Ministry of Creative Economy appreciates WAINI as a platform for young talents to showcase their works and reach wider audiences. Moments like this bring creators together and open opportunities for sustainable collaboration,” said Cecep.

The festival features a range of main programs, from national and international film screenings and discussions to illustration exhibitions and interactive installations such as zoetrope animation, grid barrier animation, as well as storyboard corners and traditional animation showreels.

The Program Director of WAINI Vol. 6, Destianawati, stated that the festival is designed as a shared growth space for young creators, with a primary focus on student filmmakers and the younger generation who bring fresh ideas and energy into the animation industry.

“We present WAINI as both an appreciation platform and a learning space, enabling young creators to grow and connect with one another. We aim to provide a greater stage for student filmmakers so that their works can be recognized and become part of a continuously evolving ecosystem,” said Destianawati.

WAINI also features additional programs such as STICKTOK (Stick The Token), which encourages visitors to explore the entire series of events, as well as WAINIMART as a space for creators to showcase and sell creative products ranging from art prints and zines to merchandise.

The festival is open to the public free of charge and is intended for students, university students, creative professionals, and the wider community interested in exploring animation more closely.
