Jakarta, 6 May, 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening an inclusive creative economy through a family-based approach. This was highlighted during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, and the Indonesian Parents Association of Children with Disabilities (PORTADIN) at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/6).
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, received an audience with the Indonesian Parents Association of Children with Disabilities (PORTADIN) at the Ministry of Creative Economy Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/6/2026).
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring the sustainability of creative works produced by persons with disabilities, so that they do not stop at the production stage.
Irene added that the Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to play a role in expanding distribution and marketing channels, enabling creative economy actors with disabilities to reach broader markets.
“Our focus is to support distribution and marketing, so that products that are ready can gain wider recognition and continue beyond the duration of events,” said Irene Umar.

The Ministry also opened opportunities for the participation of creative economy actors with disabilities in various creative economy events involving both private and government sectors. This involvement is expected to improve product quality through curation processes while expanding market networks.
“Through collaboration with various stakeholders, creative economy actors can learn to meet stricter curation standards, thereby improving product quality and competitiveness,” Irene Umar stated.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that families play a crucial role in the development of the disability creative economy. Considering that most PORTADIN members are individuals with intellectual disabilities who require intensive assistance, family support becomes essential.
“The closest companions are parents. When parents have the right understanding and skills, the impact will be directly felt by their children,” Irene Umar explained.
PORTADIN Family Empowerment Coordinator, Desyana, explained that the organization focuses on empowering families through the development of various creative economy subsectors. The products include fashion, crafts, culinary items, and visual art involving community members.

PORTADIN identified product downstreaming, particularly packaging and market access, as the main challenges. Support from the Ministry of Creative Economy is expected to bridge the process from training to sustainable market readiness.
“We need support to connect the process from training to marketing, so that the products can sustain in the market,” said Desyana.
Responding to this, Director of Publishing and Photography at the Ministry of Creative Economy, Iman Santoso, stated that capacity building can be carried out through practical approaches such as product photography training and narrative development. This approach is considered effective in enhancing product appeal without requiring complex methods.
“Visuals and storytelling are key elements in increasing product attractiveness. With simple techniques, business actors can already strengthen their value proposition,” explained Iman Santoso.
The use of technology was also a focus of discussion, particularly the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) to support the creation of promotional content. This approach is seen as helpful for creative economy actors, including persons with disabilities, in delivering compelling stories behind their products.
