Ministry of Creative Economy Supports Acehnese Musicians: Accelerating Creativity to Compete Globally

Aceh, May 27, 2025 – The Ministry of Creative Economy, through its Directorate of Music, under the Deputy of Media Creativity, is running the Akselerasi Kreatif Musik (Creative Acceleration for Music) program in Aceh. Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, believes this initiative serves as a platform to foster the creativity of musicians across the regions and produce higher-quality music works.

Minister of Creative Economy continues to promote local potential through the Creative Music Acceleration program, including supporting musicians from Aceh, to build an inclusive and competitive regional music ecosystem that can serve as a driving force for the creative economy, held at Autograph Tower, Jakarta (May 27, 2025).

“This program aligns with our vision of positioning the creative economy as an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable new growth engine for the regions. We will continue to push for economic transformation and nurture culture-based music communities, especially in Aceh,” said Minister Teuku Riefky on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Akselerasi Kreatif Musik program acts as an advocacy platform for local musicians, helping them promote and distribute their creative works. It provides guidance that goes beyond facilitating music video production by also connecting musicians with producers, labels, digital streaming platforms, sponsors, promoters, and festival organizers.

The program further supports bringing music from local communities to international markets, while also monitoring progress and introducing policy interventions based on the development of the music works produced.

Minister Teuku Riefky emphasized that music, as one of the creative economy’s sub-sectors, sparks creativity in many forms—from songwriting and instrumentation to generating job creation. Musicians from Aceh were selected because the province is one of the national priority areas for creative economy development.

“Collaboration in the music sub-sector is expected to inspire and bring a positive impact to other creative economy talents in Aceh so that the creative economy can truly become a new engine of growth that begins at the regional level,” added Minister Teuku Riefky.

Similar to the Minister’s statement, Deputy for Media Creativity Agustini Rahayu appreciated the music video production process, highlighting the involvement of local talents, particularly from the younger generation.

“Driven by the spirit of collaboration and regional empowerment, it is important to note that every talent involved in this music video—from musicians, directors, production crews, to all supporting elements—comes from Aceh. The main goal of this program is to empower the local creative economy to produce high-quality music works,” said Deputy Agustini.

As a concrete manifestation of the government’s commitment to the music sub-sector, the program provided support for the production of music videos for the Rapai Pasee Raja Buwah community and the Aceh-based metalcore band Killa The Phia, which has represented Indonesia at Wacken Open Air in Germany—the world’s largest heavy metal music festival. The production took place over seven days, from May 24 to 30, 2025, under the direction of local filmmaker Hamdi Ramnit.

The music video features a re-arranged version of Hitam by Killa The Phia, enriched with the rhythms of Rapai Passe to strengthen Aceh’s local musical identity. The lyrics of Hitam express a defiance against inner turmoil and carry a message of resilience in overcoming disappointment.
