Jakarta, 30 January, 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency continues to support diplomacy efforts while strengthening cross-country synergy through the film, animation, and video subsectors. Minister of Creative Economy / Head of the Creative Economy Agency Teuku Riefky Harsya directly observed the filming process of Rose Pandanwangi, a co-production involving Indonesia, the Philippines, the Netherlands, and France.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya visited the filming location of Rose Pandanwangi at the AA Maramis Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (January 27, 2026).
“The Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to support Indonesian films that are developed through a sustainable creative process. The cross-country collaboration presented in Rose Pandanwangi can be promoted as part of Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy and serve to introduce the nation’s artistic heritage and history to the global market,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky during his visit to the filming location at the AA Maramis Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
On that occasion, Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky observed scene by scene as they were brought to life through a continuous creative process. The synergy between the director and productive talents was evident in presenting historical artistry, making Rose Pandanwangi highly anticipated as a biographical film.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky believes that a comprehensive strategy is required to combine strong storytelling-based narratives, creatively grounded historical accuracy, and intensive marketing efforts. He further emphasized the urgency of sustaining the creative ecosystem to strengthen the future of Indonesian biographical films as instruments of Indonesia’s soft power and national branding, capable of being showcased at international film festivals.

“Cross-sector collaboration in Indonesian filmmaking must move forward while ensuring that the ecosystem remains well maintained. We also provide support in terms of permits for several filming locations to help facilitate the production process. This is because Rose Pandanwangi will become an Intellectual Property (IP) that not only documents the audiovisual legacy of a legendary seriosa singer, but also provides legitimacy and broad scope for the nation’s historical narrative,” added Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky.
The production house Summerland Films, established in 2017, was appointed to produce Rose Pandanwangi. The vision of this production house is to voice social issues that are often considered taboo by society. Several Indonesian films previously produced by Summerland Films include Ave Maryam (2018), Jakarta vs Everybody (2020), and Yohanna (2024).
Chelsea Islan, Razka Robby Ertanto, and Kristine de Leon serve as producers of Rose Pandanwangi. The film highlights elements of the history of seriosa music and the distinctive character of Indonesia’s first seriosa singer, Rose Pandanwangi, portraying her as a source of cultural pride and a music icon who had a personal connection with S. Sudjojono, a pioneer of modern Indonesian art.
“We aim to visualize historical events from the 1950–1969 period, during which Rose Pandanwangi emerged as a legendary seriosa singer who received numerous international festival awards, so that today’s generation can better understand and recognize that seriosa music once flourished in its time. We are currently on the 10th day of production, with filming in Indonesia scheduled to continue until January 31 before moving on to Europe,” said Razka Robby Ertanto, who also serves as the film’s director.

In addition to the AA Maramis Building, several filming locations for Rose Pandanwangi in Jakarta include the National Museum, Kota Tua, and Ancol, as well as the Bogor Presidential Palace and Semarang. Rose Pandanwangi was also selected for the JAFF Future Project, an initiative that encourages independent films to enter the production stage and global distribution. Previously, the Indonesian film was introduced at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival to open access to potential investors.
“Our hope for Rose Pandanwangi is that it will be well received as a complete work and, of course, become a source of pride for Indonesia so that it can be enjoyed by a wide audience. We are truly pleased with the visit from the Ministry of Creative Economy team, who have been very supportive and helpful in engaging with us, enabling Rose Pandanwangi to tour film festivals and eventually secure a theatrical release in Indonesian cinemas,” said Razka Robby Ertanto.
Accompanying Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya were the Minister’s Special Staff for Strategic Issues and Inter-Institutional Affairs, Rian Syaf, and the Minister’s Expert Staff for Strategic Issues and Inter-Institutional Affairs, Gemintang Kejora Mallarangeng.
