Ambon, July 25, 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy continues to strengthen its commitment to advancing the creative economy as the new engine of growth by empowering regions across Indonesia. One of the latest initiatives is the release of the song Papa Mama Pung Pasang from Ambon, a city recognized as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of music since 2019.

“Indonesia’s music industry does not always have to begin at the center. Ambon has proven that regional creativity can become the new engine of growth for the national economy,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya on Friday, July 25, 2025.
The release, facilitated through the ministry’s AKTIF (Creative Acceleration) program, presents a collaborative work written by Gian Tomasoa and performed by Willy Sopacua with Kaihulu Band. This project not only strengthens the regional music ecosystem but also serves as a platform of appreciation for creative talents in Ambon.

“As a UNESCO City of Music, Ambon demonstrates that cultural identity and economic potential can go hand in hand,” Minister Riefky added.
More than just a song, Papa Mama Pung Pasang reflects the power of music as a medium for passing down values, traditions, and stories across generations. It reinforces the narrative that the creative industry is not only about economics, but also about how local cultural heritage continues to live on in forms that remain relevant and engaging for today’s generation.

Ambon’s commitment and consistency in sustaining its music industry have received international recognition. In the latest evaluation conducted by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network this year, Ambon achieved the highest rating, Excellent—a milestone that reflects the strength of collaboration among local stakeholders.
The Ministry of Creative Economy is expanding similar initiatives to other cities, ensuring that Indonesia’s music industry grows inclusively, equitably, and competitively as part of the government’s commitment to building a sustainable creative economy ecosystem. Agustini Rahayu, Deputy for Media Creativity, explained that AKTIF is designed to accelerate the development of the creative economy by engaging with local communities.

“Creative Acceleration is aimed at amplifying the economic impact of local works. We work hand in hand with communities, facilitating music video production, as well as providing distribution and exposure support, so that regional music ecosystems can continue to grow holistically,” said Deputy Agustini.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Amin, Director of Music, noted that talent development in Ambon is being supported through various initiatives, ranging from musician management training and performance platforms to networking opportunities with international industry players.
“We want Ambon to become a model of collaboration that can be replicated across other regions—showing that even from local communities, creative works can reach the global stage,” said Director Amin.
