Ministry of Creative Economy Supports Performing Arts as a Showcase of Indonesia’s Creative Talent

Jakarta, May 25, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, praised performing arts that blend local stories with modern touches. Like hitting two birds with one stone, such performances serve a dual mission: preserving regional heritage while also advancing the creative economy.

Deputy Minister Irene delivered this statement while attending the musical drama Lutung Kasarung at Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta. She emphasized that a performance should not only entertain but also raise public awareness and appreciation for the performing arts.

“This performance has high production value and captivates the audience with a compelling story. It is truly impressive and highlights the vast potential of Indonesia’s creative talents,” said Deputy Minister Irene at Ciputra Artpreneur on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

True to its name, the Lutung Kasarung musical drama brings to life the legendary tale from West Java, enriched with theater and music. Deputy Minister Irene underlined that creative packaging and effective collaboration are crucial in strengthening the creative economy of performing arts.

“By integrating other subsectors through relevant advertising, we can boost revenue, open new opportunities for the creative industry, and create quality job opportunities for younger generations,” Deputy Minister Irene added.

She further emphasized that musical theater in Indonesia has great potential to generate job opportunities, foster creativity, and promote cultural heritage.

According to her, such performances demonstrate how local stories can enhance the value of Intellectual Property (IP) in sustainable formats. She noted that innovation in the creative economy is vital to elevate the quality of works, inspire creative spirit, and further grow the sector.

“We must continue to support and develop Indonesia’s creative talent so they can compete in global markets,” said Acting Director of Visual Arts and Performing Arts Dadam Mahdar, who accompanied Deputy Minister Irene.

The Ministry of Creative Economy remains committed to supporting the development of creative talent in Indonesia and raising awareness about the role of the creative economy in driving national economic growth, positioning Indonesia’s creative economy as the new engine of growth. Concrete and sustained support for artists is essential, including adequate infrastructure and effective promotion at both national and international levels to enhance their visibility and competitiveness.

Deputy Minister Irene was also accompanied at the event by Deputy for Cultural and Design Creativity, Yuke Sri Rahayu.
