Jakarta, July 3, 2025 — Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, received an audience from the founders of B Film School, a vocational film school. “The Ministry of Creative Economy opens room for collaboration with various vocational institutions such as B Film School. We believe that the future of Indonesian cinema relies not only on creativity but also on an adaptive education system that is connected to the industry and responsive to the demands of the times. The film sector is a vital part of the creative economy, serving as the new engine of growth that drives innovation, added value, and the creation of high-quality jobs for the younger generation,” said Deputy Minister Irene during the audience at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Established in March 2025, B Film School has begun conducting learning activities gradually. The school is designed to produce job-ready young talents through a practice-based and industry-collaborative approach, and is set to be officially inaugurated later this year.

Deputy Minister Irene also emphasized the importance of building an ecosystem-based approach in developing Indonesia’s film industry. The meeting also discussed potential collaborations between B Film School and the Ministry of Creative Economy, such as participation in film festivals, industry internship facilitation, as well as joint research on technology trends, human resource needs, and the direction of Indonesia’s film industry growth.

“Our role at the Ministry is simple but crucial: to act as a matchmaker and translator that converts industry needs into the language of education, and vice versa. There should be no sectoral ego that hinders our potential. It is time to sit together, align our vision, and shape an ecosystem that strengthens one another,” Deputy Minister Irene stated.

Indonesia’s film industry is indeed on the rise. According to Cinepoint and filmindonesia.or.id, as of June 30, 2025, local films have already attracted 42.6 million viewers, which accounts for half of last year’s record-breaking 82.1 million. A total of 285 national films have been released, reflecting rapid growth and positioning the film sector as one of the key drivers of the creative economy.

“B Film School was born out of our concern as practitioners, seeing that many film school graduates are not ready for the workforce. Today’s meeting was very productive—we received valuable input from Deputy Minister Irene and feel even more challenged to contribute further to the industry,” said Founder and Head of B Film School, Benny Kadarhariarto.

“We hope the Ministry of Creative Economy can serve as a bridge between us and other stakeholders—from production houses and professional associations to other ministries with a role in the film sector. The challenges today are not only about human resource quality, but also the lack of synergy among players. We need to build an ecosystem, not work separately,” added Vice Head of the School, Agung Ariefiandi.

The Ministry of Creative Economy welcomed B Film School’s initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to continuously support creative vocational education as a key pillar in producing top-quality human resources. The Ministry aims to ensure that creative talents are not only competent but also collaborative and ready to become part of both the national and global film industry growth.
