Ministry of Creative Economy: Urban Air Mobility Creates New Opportunities for Indonesia’s Aviation Talent

Jakarta, June 24, 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) continues to encourage the development of technology-driven innovation as a key component of Indonesia’s economic growth. The Ministry views sectors such as smart mobility, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) as emerging pillars of the country’s creative economy.

Muhammad Neil El Himam, Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology at the Ministry of Creative Economy, delivers his remarks during the Welcoming the Future of Air Mobility event at Cengkareng Heliport, Tangerang, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

This commitment was reflected through last year’s Ekraf Tech Innovation Challenge, which focused on the theme of Smart Mobility. As part of its ongoing support for technological innovation, Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology at the Ministry of Creative Economy, Muhammad Neil El Himam, attended and expressed his appreciation at the Welcoming the Future of Air Mobility event held at Cengkareng Heliport, Tangerang, on Wednesday (June 24).

“Today’s event is not merely about introducing new technology. It is an opportunity to see how creativity, technology, and innovation can come together to shape the future of mobility in Indonesia. In line with the Creative Economy Law, the creative economy is defined as added value derived from intellectual property originating from human creativity and based on culture, science, and technology. Therefore, the creative economy is not limited to arts and culture—it also encompasses innovation and technology that transform knowledge into solutions with tangible economic value for society,” said Neil.

The event introduced the concepts of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) technology as future transportation solutions that are fast, efficient, and integrated—particularly relevant for an archipelagic nation like Indonesia. Neil emphasized that these technologies represent a critical opportunity to cultivate a new generation of aviation professionals through collaboration among educational institutions, industry players, and government stakeholders.

“Our success in Urban Air Mobility will not be determined solely by eVTOL technology, but by our ability to build a competitive and advanced mobility ecosystem. New technologies will create demand for new professions, ranging from pilots and system operators to technicians, software developers, navigation specialists, and artificial intelligence experts. We want Indonesia not only to adopt these technologies but also to develop the capacity to manage and advance them,” he added.

The event featured collaboration between Whitesky Aviation, an Indonesian private aviation company, and SkyDrive, a Japanese developer of electric flying vehicles. Denon Prawiraatmadja, President Director of Whitesky Group, said the strategic alliance aims to address the growing demand for reliable urban air mobility solutions while helping to ease congestion in major metropolitan areas.

“This exploratory collaboration on eVTOL implementation represents a shared effort to prepare for an efficient, integrated, and sustainable transportation system for Indonesia’s future,” said Denon.

The program also included a panel discussion and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Whitesky Aviation and the Trisakti Institute of Transportation and Logistics (ITL Trisakti) as an academic partner. The partnership is expected to strengthen industry-academia collaboration through seminars, research initiatives, and internship programs, accelerating the transfer of AAM and UAM technologies to Indonesia’s next generation of aviation talent.
