Magelang, May 31, 2026 – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka described the 2026 National Vesak Dharmasanti as a symbol of Indonesia’s unity that brings peace. The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency also emphasized that the National Dharmasanti of the Holy Vesak Day serves as a tangible example of how tradition, creativity, and humanitarian values can grow into an inclusive and sustainable economic force.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar, attended the 2026 National Vesak Dharmasanti at Borobudur Temple, Magelang, Central Java, Sunday (31/5/2026).
“Happy Vesak Day 2570 BE (Buddhist Era). May happiness, peace, health, and blessings always accompany our journey. The Vesak celebration at Borobudur is not only a religious observance, but also a powerful symbol that Indonesia is a shared home that upholds peace, respects diversity, and is capable of transforming differences into strength,” said Vice President Gibran during the event held at Lumbini Park, Borobudur Temple, Magelang, Central Java, on Sunday (31/5).
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized that the 2026 National Vesak Dharmasanti serves as an important momentum to strengthen the creative economy ecosystem based on culture, spiritual tourism, and Indonesia’s diplomacy of diversity. The 2570 BE National Vesak Celebration was also attended by Deputy Minister Irene Umar, international figures, and hundreds of thousands of Buddhists from various regions.
“The National Vesak Dharmasanti is a momentum that unites the values of peace, culture, and community creativity. This celebration is not only a space for spirituality and Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy, but also a stage for the creative works of the nation’s younger generation, involving arts and cultural communities as well as collaboration among creative economy practitioners. Happy Vesak Day 2570 BE,” said the Minister.

The Minister added that Vesak is not merely a religious event, but also a momentum to reinforce the values of peace, tolerance, and unity while positioning culture as a unifying force for the nation. The Ministry’s participation in the celebration also reflects its support for the development of national events rooted in cultural and religious values that generate economic impact while strengthening Indonesia’s image on the global stage.
“Vesak teaches the value of compassion and nurtures wisdom as guiding principles for the harmonious life of the Indonesian nation. We extend our highest appreciation to WALUBI for demonstrating how tradition and spirituality can become sources of inspiration, innovation, and economic value while maintaining harmony within society,” the Minister stated.
The 2026 National Vesak Dharmasanti carried the theme ‘Dharma as a Source of Morality and Wisdom’ and the subtheme ‘Compassion as the Source of World Peace.’ The highlight of the celebration featured various performances, including traditional dances, a choir performance by WALUBI Central Java, and the release of peace lanterns, reflecting Indonesia as a harmonious and dignified nation.
The event also underscored the position of Borobudur Temple as a symbol of civilization and Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy as a nation that upholds tolerance and world peace.

The presence of officials from the Ministry of Creative Economy also served as a continuation of the collaboration with the Indonesian Buddhists Representative Council (WALUBI), which has continued to develop since the 2569 BE National Vesak Day celebration, ranging from the development of art exhibition areas to the strengthening of community-based creative economy ecosystems. This synergy is expected to make Vesak a source of inspiration in building an inclusive, creative, and civilized society.
At the 2026 Vesak Dharmasanti Celebration, the Minister was accompanied by Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency Dessy Ruhati, Deputy for Cultural Creativity and Design Yuke Sri Rahayu, and Director of Culinary Affairs Romi Astuti.
