Yogyakarta, 1 December 2025 — Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Netflix and the Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI) at the 2025 JAFF (Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival) Market. This agreement marks a strategic step to strengthen professional work practices and expand global market access opportunities for Indonesia’s film industry.
Wakil Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Irene Umar, menyaksikan penandatanganan Nota Kesepahaman (MoU) antara Netflix dan Asosiasi Produser Film Indonesia (APROFI) pada ajang JAFF (Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival) Market 2025 yang berlangsung di Jogja Expo Center (JEC), Yogyakarta, Senin (1/12/2025).
“Netflix has become an integral part of the global film industry. Therefore, this collaboration is highly strategic in strengthening Indonesian talent through training, on-the-job learning opportunities, and access to creative funding. The government is committed to supporting this effort in the spirit of the hexahelix, ensuring its impact is directly felt by industry players,” said Deputy Minister Irene Umar at the event held at Jogja Expo Center (JEC) on 1 December 2025.
Deputy Minister Irene Umar emphasized that the collaboration between Netflix and APROFI represents a significant momentum in accelerating the growth of Indonesia’s film industry as the new engine of growth. The MoU covers four key areas: workforce capacity development through curated workshops; on-the-job training programs for selected alumni; industry dialogues and engagement in regulatory issues to strengthen the production ecosystem; and access to the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, which opens wider opportunities for underrepresented talent.

Ruben Hattari, Director of Public Policy for Netflix Southeast Asia, reiterated Netflix’s commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s film ecosystem.
“I come to JAFF every year and witness the rapid development of the industry. Netflix is committed to continuing its investment and supporting the development of Indonesia’s film ecosystem through programs that are more concrete and relevant to the industry’s needs,” he said.
Meanwhile, APROFI Chairperson Edwin Nazir added that this collaboration continues programs that have already delivered a positive impact for film workers.
“APROFI and Netflix previously collaborated on a workplace safety workshop, and the results were excellent. This two-year program is designed to extend its benefits to more filmmakers and promote professionalism across the entire production chain,” he stated.

The signing of the MoU at JAFF Market 2025 marks a new chapter in the Netflix–APROFI partnership, with more targeted initiatives to strengthen talent development pathways, improve workplace quality, and expand access to learning and production opportunities for Indonesian creators. This initiative is expected to serve as a crucial foundation for a healthier, more inclusive film ecosystem that is competitive at regional and global levels.
