Jakarta, May 12, 2026 – The government remains committed to carrying out post-disaster recovery efforts in Sumatra by prioritizing sustainable cross-sector collaboration. The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency organized the “Painting Together with Disaster-Affected Children” activity in Aceh Tamiang Regency on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency through the Deputy for Cultural Creativity and Design, together with the Directorate of Fine Arts and Performing Arts, organized the “Painting Together with Disaster-Affected Children” activity in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh, on Thursday (7/5/2026).
The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Creative Economy through the Deputy for Cultural Creativity and Design, involved 50 elementary and junior high school students from flood-affected areas under the theme “New Hope.” The theme was introduced as part of psychosocial recovery efforts for children, enabling them to express emotions and rebuild their spirit to rise again through art and creativity-based approaches.
“Recovery is not only about rebuilding homes, but also about restoring the spirit, confidence, and dreams of Indonesia’s children. Through art, children are provided with a safe space to heal, express their feelings, and nurture new hope,” said Deputy for Cultural Creativity and Design, Yuke Sri Rahayu.
Deputy Yuke added that the fine arts and performing arts subsectors, as part of the creative economy subsectors, hold strategic power in providing spaces for both recovery and growth within communities. According to her, the government continues to foster cross-subsector collaboration for disaster recovery through strengthening public mental resilience so communities can rise together.
On the same occasion, Director of Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Dadam Mahdar, stated that the activity also forms part of a strategy to strengthen the role of the creative economy within communities in supporting periodic post-disaster recovery efforts in Aceh Tamiang.
“The painting activity organized by the Ministry of Creative Economy reflects how art is not only a medium of creativity, but also a pathway for recovery, mental strengthening, and the cultivation of sustainable hope for communities recovering from disaster,” added Dadam Mahdar.

This activity further reinforces that the creative economy is not merely a driver of regional and national economic growth, but also an instrument for developing resilient individuals capable of strengthening social resilience and restoring hope among Indonesian communities after disasters.
In addition to the painting session, the 50 participants also received school supplies, seminar kits, and appreciation awards for the most inspiring artworks as a form of moral support and motivation for children to continue creating. The activity was also accompanied by the local arts community Workshop Balas Budi, which provided opportunities for children to express their hopes through colorful paintings.
Head of the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office of Aceh Tamiang, Muhammad Farij, expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Creative Economy’s collaboration in presenting creativity-based recovery programs for the people of Aceh Tamiang, particularly in encouraging artistic expression through the children’s paintings.

“This activity has delivered positive impacts for the community, particularly children and families affected by the disaster. It not only brings happiness, but also creates a recovery space that strengthens mental resilience, nurtures optimism, and accelerates collective recovery. The Painting Together with Children activity in Aceh Tamiang was also attended by the Head of the Education and Culture Office represented by Head of the Culture Division Mustafa Kamal, Chairman of Workshop Balas Budi Bang Budi, as well as various regional stakeholders supporting community recovery through boundless creativity.
