The performance not only entertained but also raised public awareness and appreciation for the performing arts.

The Lutung Kasarung musical brought to life a legendary tale with a captivating blend of theater and music. By presenting West Java folklore, the performance both promotes local culture and serves as a driver for Indonesia’s creative economy. Deputy Minister Irene stressed that creative packaging and effective collaboration are key to strengthening the economic potential of the performing arts, while at the same time enhancing public awareness and appreciation.

“By integrating other subsectors through relevant advertising, we can boost revenues, open new opportunities for the creative industry, and create quality job opportunities for younger generations,” she said.
She further emphasized that musical theater plays an important role in the creative economy, particularly within the performing arts subsector.
“Musical theater in Indonesia holds enormous potential to create jobs, foster creativity, and promote culture,” Irene added. “Performing arts can also serve as a medium to preserve local stories while enhancing intellectual property value through more sustainable and engaging formats.”

The Deputy Minister expressed hope that performances such as this would inspire artists and creative industry talent across Indonesia to keep innovating and improving the quality of their work.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Visual Arts and Performing Arts, Dadam Mahdar, underscored the importance of building a sustainable performing arts ecosystem in Indonesia.
“We must continue to support and develop Indonesia’s creative talent so they can compete in the global market,” he said.
The Ministry of Creative Economy is committed to supporting the development of creative talent in Indonesia and raising awareness of the role of the creative economy as the new engine of national growth.
