Jakarta, April 2, 2025 - Veteran actor Ray Sahetapy passed away on Tuesday evening (April 1, 2025) at Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD), Central Jakarta. He had been battling an illness for the past two years.
Minister of Creative Economy/Head of Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, extended his deepest condolences on the passing of the late actor.

"Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. My heartfelt condolences. May the bereaved family be granted strength and patience during this difficult time," said Minister Teuku Riefky in his statement.
Minister Teuku Riefky remembered the late actor as an extraordinarily talented and highly respected figure, one of the most prominent in his generation over the past 40 years. He was well-known for his compelling portrayals of complex characters, often in antagonist roles.
"He was recognized as the actor with the most nominations at the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI), with seven nominations—six of them in the Best Actor category. Internationally, he had the opportunity to appear in Captain America: Civil War (2016), as well as The Raid, Chrisye, and Ponirah Terpidana. Farewell, Bang Ray Sahetapy, may you rest in peace," Minister Teuku Riefky stated.
Ray Sahetapy was born in Donggala, Central Sulawesi, on January 1, 1957. He began his career in the film industry playing the role of Jaka in the 1980 film Gadis. He also once served as Chairman of the Indonesian Film Artists Association (Parfi) 56.
