Jakarta, 15 April, 2026 – The 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), attended the gala premiere of the film Kupilih Jalur Langit at Epicentrum XXI, Jakarta. The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) also expressed its appreciation for Kupilih Jalur Langit, which further enriches Indonesia’s film industry.
The 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), together with the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, attended the gala premiere of Kupilih Jalur Langit at Epicentrum XXI, Jakarta, on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
“Watching Kupilih Jalur Langit presents a story that portrays life’s drama filled with love and tears. There are characters who cannot escape the past, yet achieve a happy ending by choosing to move on, even though it comes with sorrow for others. This is an Indonesian film to be proud of, and I would like to thank MD Pictures for producing a film worth watching,” said SBY after attending the gala premiere on Wednesday (15/4).
Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, who was also present, emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting and sustaining the positive trend of audiences watching national films, thereby encouraging the creation of diverse, high-quality film genres. Kupilih Jalur Langit is scheduled to be released in Indonesian cinemas starting April 23, 2026.
“The Ministry of Creative Economy highly recommends Kupilih Jalur Langit, which offers strong storytelling and outstanding performances from the cast, deeply portraying a family dynamic. This Indonesian film is presented in an engaging manner and provides inspiration on maintaining family unity. It is also supported by cinematographic techniques that strengthen the narrative. We appreciate all teams involved in the production of Kupilih Jalur Langit,” said the Minister.
Indonesia’s film industry continues to demonstrate positive momentum and increasing resilience, both in terms of production, quality, and domestic market confidence. Each film contributes broad economic impact through the absorption of creative talent, stimulation of other creative economy subsectors, and strengthening the monetization of intellectual property. The key challenge ahead is to ensure sustainable production growth that remains competitive in the global market.

“The development of Indonesia’s film industry today is highly encouraging, with audience numbers continuing to grow. We must maintain this enthusiasm by ensuring that national films become the host in their own country, with increasingly diverse genres and well-crafted storytelling and performances. Moving forward, we hope more Indonesian films can reach global audiences and be screened internationally,” the Minister added.
Kupilih Jalur Langit explores how individuals face reality when life does not always unfold as expected. This religious-themed film offers reflections that in every situation, there is always room to return to values and beliefs in making life decisions, particularly within a family context.
The film is a collaboration between MD Pictures and Manara Studios. Directed by Archie Hekagery, the film features a talented cast, including Zee Asadel (Amira), Emir Mahira (Furqon), Nyimas Ratu Rafa (Dara), Neneng Risma Wulandari (Wati), Ardhit Erwandha (Afif), Dina Lorenza (Ririn – Amira’s mother), Surya Saputra (Ahmad – Amira’s father), Putri Ayudya (Fatimah – Furqon’s mother), and Irgi Ahmad Fahrezi (Imron – Furqon’s father).
“Indonesian films dominated market share at 66 percent in 2025. This is an honor for our national film industry, which must remain the host in its own country. Manoj Punjabi, as the producer, affirmed that MD Pictures remains committed to contributing to the Indonesian box office by producing high-quality films. We hope Kupilih Jalur Langit will be well received by the public,” he said.
