Jakarta, June 23, 2025 — Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, welcomed a delegation from Garuda Indonesia, Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia, and digital creator Tahilalats at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, on Monday, June 23, 2025. The meeting discussed the strategic collaboration program Sky Explorer, which promotes local intellectual property (IP) through partnerships with the aviation, automotive, and digital creative industries.

“This collaboration is an example of how Indonesian local IP can become not just a new engine of growth but also a cross-industry promotional engine. It’s not just about product branding; it’s about elevating the nation’s creative identity on national and global stages. We hope Sky Explorer becomes a role model for other sectors,” said Deputy Minister Irene Umar.
The Ministry views this kind of collaboration as a key foundation for building a sustainable and interconnected IP ecosystem. Beyond expanding market opportunities for creative talents, this approach also strengthens the positioning of Indonesian IP as both a commercial asset and a tool of creative economic diplomacy, nationally and globally.
“Sky Explorer is more than just an animated character. It’s a real example of how local IP can evolve into a powerful, cross-industry force. This is where the creative economy proves its role—not as an accessory, but as a new foundation uniting innovation, business, and authentic Indonesian creative expression,” Deputy Minister Irene added.
Sky Explorer is a local IP created through a collaboration between Garuda Indonesia and Tahilalats, first introduced in 2024. The IP has now been officially adopted by Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia as part of the marketing strategy for its upcoming vehicle line, to be announced soon. Mitsubishi is the first commercial buyer of the IP, marking a strategic step in integrating local content into a global campaign.

Garuda Indonesia expressed its appreciation for the Ministry of Creative Economy’s support, emphasizing the value of IP in fostering broader creative collaborations.
“We are proud and greatly supported by Deputy Minister Irene’s encouragement. This is our pilot project in the local IP field, and we hope it becomes the beginning of many more collaborations. We want to encourage the potential for Indonesian IPs to grow alongside us,” said Garuda Indonesia’s President Director, Wamildan Tsani.
Meanwhile, Atsushi Kurita, President Director of PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI), sees that the collaboration introduces a new way of connecting with Indonesian consumers, particularly younger audiences. By highlighting the Sky Explorer characters and narrative universe, the campaign aims to foster a stronger emotional bond with customers.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Garuda Indonesia and Tahilalats through Sky Explorer. It’s a fun and relevant approach to today’s lifestyle. MMKSI believes that integrating local IP into product promotion creates a more meaningful experience while strengthening our presence within the Indonesian community,” said Atsushi Kurita.
The meeting also opened up further discussions for potential future collaborations, including co-developing new IPs, launching digital and offline campaign activations, and involving creative MSMEs along the value chain.
Deputy Minister Irene was accompanied by the Director for Publishing and Photography, Iman Santosa, and the Director for Fashion, Romi Astuti, at the Ministry of Creative Economy.
Also present were Director of PT Nura Kreasi Kreatif (Tahilalats), Rakhman Azari; Director of Commercial at Garuda Indonesia, Ade R. Susardi; Director of After Sales at MMKSI, Kazuto Azuma; and Group Head of Corporate Secretary at Garuda Indonesia, Cahyadi Indrananto.
