Jakarta, February 7, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Headof the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar has expressed readiness to connect local Intellectual Property (IP) owners with game developer Garena. This collaboration aims to further strengthen partnerships within the gaming industry.
"The Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to assist Garena in establishing collaborations with existing local IP owners. We hope Garena prioritizes local IP by incorporating Indonesian characters, stories, and cultural elements into their games," stated Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene during an audience with Garena representatives at the Pesona Indonesia Film Building, Jakarta, on Friday, February 7, 2025.
This marks a strategic momentum for both Garena and the Ministry of Creative Economy in strengthening Indonesia’s gaming industry through the integration of local culture and support for national game developers. In addition to discussing local IP integration, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene emphasized the importance of developing the gaming ecosystem within the education sector. She encouraged Garena to continue its "Teachers' Transformation in the 4.0 Era" program, which aims to enhance the digital skills of educators across Indonesia.

"We hope Garena continues its educational programs, particularly in upskilling teachers, to reach more schools nationwide. Additionally, with Free Fire now ranking as the third-largest game in Indonesia, we would like to see further collaboration between the Ministry of Creative Economy and Garena in supporting international events such as the Free Fire World Series," she added.
In response, Garena’s Executive Director, Hans Kurniadi Saleh, expressed his appreciation for the meeting with the Ministry of Creative Economy. He affirmed Garena’s commitment to supporting the national gaming ecosystem by involving more elements of the local creative industry.
