Jakarta, 9 April 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sunway University Malaysia. This agreement marks a strategic step to expand networks and strengthen the national creative economy ecosystem at the global level.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Dessy Ruhati, signed the MoU between the Ministry of Creative Economy and Sunway University Malaysia in Petaling Jaya, Tuesday (31/3/2026).
The MoU signing, held on Tuesday (31/3), also involved several partners, including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Sony Malaysia, Euroasia Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO), as well as the creative ecosystem within the Sunway Square and Sunway Lagoon areas. This collaboration integrates government, academia, industry, and communities within a collaborative ecosystem.
The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, emphasized that this partnership is part of the government’s commitment to enhancing the global competitiveness of Indonesian creative talents.
“In line with President Prabowo’s directive to strengthen Indonesia’s position as one of the economic centers in Southeast Asia, this partnership is designed to open access for Indonesian talents to learn and collaborate internationally,” he stated.

As a follow-up, the Ministry of Creative Economy is developing a collaborative program with Sunway University through the Akselerasi Kreatif (AKTIF) Riau initiative. This program is expected to open opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the music subsector, strengthen the linkage between education and industry, and increase the exposure of Indonesian and Malaysian musicians.
The Secretary of the Ministry/Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Dessy Ruhati, emphasized that the implementation of this collaboration is directed toward concrete programs that deliver direct impact for creative talents.

“This collaboration is not merely a ceremonial MoU signing, but is directly implemented through concrete programs that connect local talents from Riau with selected students from Sunway University in collaborative creative projects targeted for release in conjunction with the anniversary of Pekanbaru City. This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening connectivity between academia and industry, expanding the international exposure of Indonesian musicians, and opening sustainable cross-border collaboration opportunities,” she explained.
Through this agreement, both parties have committed to developing various joint initiatives, including knowledge exchange, human resource capacity building, collaborative content production, and the creation of industry opportunities based on real practices. This step also aligns with the Ministry’s priority to accelerate the music subsector in integration with other subsectors.

This collaboration is expected to serve as a catalyst in expanding access for young Indonesian creative players to enter the global market, while strengthening cultural diplomacy through a creative industry approach. The Ministry of Creative Economy remains optimistic that this partnership will also deliver sustainable impacts on national economic growth.
