"We are proud to see the team from Senada Films consistently creating a masterpiece that is not only appreciated in Indonesia but also recognized at the Cannes Film Festival," said Deputy Minister Irene during the special screening of The Atlantis Mussels held at the Maritime Museum, Jakarta, on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
This documentary film highlights global environmental issues in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Deputy Minister's attendance at the screening also follows a previous audience with the Senada Films production team on March 19, 2025, where they discussed the distribution of independent films and emphasized the Ministry’s role in amplifying the voices of films addressing global environmental challenges, such as climate change, pollution, and sustainable resource management.
“Let’s continue to make good movies that raise real issues already happening worldwide and show what we can do together through collaboration. We understand that filmmakers strive to make an impact, and we want to help ensure this documentary reaches a wide audience,” said Deputy Minister Irene.

“Climate change is a real problem. Filmmakers should try to communicate environmental issues through film. These issues are not limited to Jakarta—they're global, with each region having its own unique experience. The Ministry is here to work together on commercialization and distribution so that environmental messages and ideas can reach wider audiences through alternative screening venues such as malls, government events, or OTT (Over-The-Top) platforms,” she added.
Film is one of the most relatable and accessible advocacy media for the public. Through a special screening with an outdoor cinema concept, the short documentary The Atlantis Mussels effectively illustrates the urgent impact of climate change, as experienced by fishermen in the northern coastal area of Jakarta, specifically in the Green Mussel Village. The film was produced by Senada Films, a production house established by alumni from the Film and Animation Department of Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN).
“The issue of Jakarta sinking has been around for a while—we simply transformed that environmental issue into a short film. From my perspective as a producer, I hope this film raises awareness and urges people to realize that this is no longer a national issue but a global one. I want the film to spark awareness and influence policymakers to take meaningful action,” stated Azyd Aqsha Madani, the film’s producer.

The Indonesia Heritage Agency (IHA) and the Maritime Museum also expressed their support for the distribution of The Atlantis Mussels. This support is part of the Bahari On Screen program, which provides a platform for young people to express their perspectives on the dynamics of coastal communities, including social aspects, traditions, tourism preservation, and cultural heritage.
“The hope is that The Atlantis Mussels will inspire young people across Indonesia to recognize that we all face the same challenge—climate change. This documentary compels us to rethink how we shape policies as decision-makers, ensuring they are rooted in environmental and cultural concerns. Climate change doesn't just affect urban structure or livelihoods—it also threatens many cultural heritages,” said Nofa Farida Lestari during the discussion session, as Executive Director of Indonesia Hidden Heritage (IHH).
