Singkawang, February 12, 2025 – Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, attended the 2025 Cap Go Meh Festival in Singkawang, West Kalimantan, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. His presence added to the excitement of the grand celebration marking the culmination of the Chinese New Year festivities.

During the event, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, expressed her appreciation for the overwhelming enthusiasm of the public, who filled the Singkawang Barat area to witness the Cap Go Meh Festival Parade. Irene also had the honor of opening the festival by striking the loku (a large traditional Chinese drum) alongside other distinguished guests.
"Today, I witnessed extraordinary enthusiasm throughout the event, and it truly makes me happy. The Cap Go Meh Festival has always aimed to preserve Indonesia's rich cultural heritage while serving as a platform to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among communities gathered here," said Irene.

She emphasized that the Cap Go Meh Festival is a celebration of diverse traditions and cultures, promoting tolerance and harmony in Singkawang’s multiethnic society. The festival is also listed in the TOP KEN (Karisma Event Nusantara) 2024, recognizing it as a premier event supporting the creative economy sector.
"I hope that events like the Cap Go Meh Festival continue to bring peace and joy. This festival always has a unique charm, featuring the Tatung Parade and involving many parties to collaborate further. The spirit of unity and mutual cooperation enhances the festival’s vibrancy each year," she added.

In his speech, Acting Governor of West Kalimantan, Harisson, expressed his hope that the Cap Go Meh Festival would continue to foster unity, harmony, and brotherhood within society. "Diversity is the key to preserving this cultural heritage with passion and pride. Year after year, Cap Go Meh has become more festive and a top tourism attraction that greatly benefits the regional economy," he stated.

The 2025 Cap Go Meh Festival adopted the theme "Culture Unites the Nation Towards Indonesia Emas 2045," highlighting the importance of togetherness in Indonesia's cultural diversity. The festival featured a variety of exciting programs, including cultural performances, the Cap Go Meh Culinary Festival, the Lantern Parade, the Altar Ceremony, and an Auction Event.
