Jakarta, February 22, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, expressed her pride and enthusiasm after watching the musical theater performance Kapan Nikah? presented by the Jakarta Musical Crew (Jaksical).
According to her, the development of musical theater in Indonesia demonstrates great potential within the creative economy sector, particularly in performing arts. Each performance showcases a unique creative process, exploring evolving visual, auditory, and aesthetic trends.
"I am proud to witness such a creative and innovative production. These extraordinary young talents have come together to present a musical theater performance that not only introduces but also raises awareness of the growing musical theater scene in Indonesia. We must continue to appreciate and support the advancement of the performing arts ecosystem in the country," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene after watching Kapan Nikah? At Teater Salihara, Jakarta, on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Irene added that musical theater performances like this combine vocals, movement, and storytelling that resonate with Indonesian society. She hopes that Kapan Nikah? will inspire more people to pursue a career in performing arts.
"This is an original, interactive musical performance that highlights the social phenomenon behind the question Kapan Nikah? (When will you get married?), which is often asked in Indonesia. Theater serves as a communication medium that can effectively engage younger generations. The combination of music, acting, and physical expression makes this musical a must-see," she added.
The Kapan Nikah? musical runs from February 21-23, 2025, at Teater Salihara, South Jakarta. This production features an interactive concept, where the audience plays a role in shaping the storyline. Jaksical, established in 2016, has produced various original musical performances, such as Musikal Kapan Resign, Journey Through Time: A Musical Concert, Singing Waiters in Jakarta, Broadway Masterclass, Open Mics & Movie Nights, and many more.
"Musikal Kapan Nikah? is a work born out of hope, dreams, and the courage to tell a heartfelt story. My love for the performing arts stems from its ability to not only entertain but also genuinely touch people's hearts. This marks my debut as a producer of an original production. I hope this performance reminds people that happiness does not have to follow a timeline dictated by others," said Shafiq Husein, one of the producers of Kapan Nikah?
On this occasion, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene was accompanied by Deputy for Media Creativity, Agustini Rahayu. Also in attendance were the Vice Minister of Population and Family Development of Indonesia, Isyana Bagoes Oka, and the Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia, Stella Christie, who were also enthusiastic about the musical performance.
