Welcoming National Creative Economy Day, Ministry of Creative Economy Affirms “The New Engine of Growth” Is No Longer Just Discourse

Jakarta, 19 October 2025 – The Ministry of Creative Economy and the National Creative Economy Movement (GEKRAFS) are collaborating to welcome National Creative Economy Day (Hekrafnas), which falls on 24 October. The collaboration features a talk show titled The Rise of the Creative Economy as Indonesia’s New Engine of Growth.

“Over the past year, Indonesia’s creative economy ‘engine’ has started to heat up. The government, together with creative fighters and communities, including GEKRAFS, is now moving to drive tangible growth. We are no longer just talking about discourse, but concrete actions that can be felt by the public,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar during the talk show held at the Dukuh Atas Skate Park, Jakarta, on Sunday, 19 October 2025.

“Our target is clear: an 8 percent contribution of the creative economy to national GDP. The direction toward that goal is already visible through existing achievements—our events are at international level, local brands are penetrating global markets, and Indonesia’s creative ecosystem is becoming increasingly solid,” added the Deputy Minister.

Deputy Minister Irene also emphasized that the creative economy as the new engine of national economic growth will continue to be driven sustainably through a spirit of mutual cooperation with various stakeholders. She further explained that through the hexahelix approach, the Ministry of Creative Economy is presenting a number of international-level events, including the Friends of Creative Economy (FCE) international forum, which will be held on 21 October to coincide with the first anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Creative Economy.

In addition, the Ministry of Creative Economy is facilitating various creative events throughout October through the Oktoberkreasi program, which is part of the series leading up to Hekrafnas 2025.

“So far, more than 50 events have been registered under Oktoberkreasi, and our target before 24 October is to reach 100 events that we will support in a tangible way. Through the various programs leading up to the National Creative Economy Day celebration, we hope to unite and work together to introduce what the creative economy truly is to the public. It is time to foster pride and love for our own works, so that more people understand and appreciate the strength of Indonesia’s creative economy,” said Deputy Minister Irene.

Meanwhile, Chairman of GEKRAFS Kawendra Lukistian explained that in this third celebration of Hekrafnas, GEKRAFS—with support from the Ministry of Creative Economy—is organizing the National Activation program, a creative economy product shopping week to be held in 20 regions across Indonesia from 24 to 31 October 2025.

“Hekrafnas is the ‘Eid’ for creative economy players across Indonesia. With the creative economy shopping week, the public can learn about the flagship creative products of each region. We are targeting a minimum transaction turnover of IDR 50 billion from this program. Hopefully, it can exceed that,” Kawendra explained.

Head of the Jakarta Provincial Office of Tourism and Creative Economy, Andhika Permata, also reaffirmed the commitment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to positioning the creative economy as the new engine of national economic growth. This vision is considered aligned with the regional government’s efforts to strengthen Jakarta as a globally competitive creative city.

“The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, together with the Ministry of Creative Economy, is committed to making Jakarta a creative city that upholds collaboration based on knowledge, culture, and technology. Through stronger policies, intellectual property protection, and the development of creative economy clusters, we aim to ensure that the creative economy truly becomes the new engine of growth toward Jakarta’s 500th anniversary in 2027,” said Andhika.

Also present at the event were Chair of the Secretary General Committee of DPP GEKRAFS Temi Sumarlin, Chair of the Hekrafnas 2025 Committee Rezza Artha, Vice Chair of the Hekrafnas 2025 Committee Faizal Hermiansyah, and Owner of Kopi Tuku Andanu Prasetyo.
