Jakarta, February 6, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, plans to engage content creators and creative economy communities to explore the economic potential of Istiqlal Mosque as a religious tourism destination.
During the event, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene witnessed firsthand the Harmoni Istiqlal performance, a cultural arts program that highlights Islamic and national values. Regarding her initiative, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene believes there are many untapped opportunities to further develop Istiqlal Mosque as a religious tourism destination. She emphasized that visitors coming to the mosque are not just there for sightseeing but can also contribute to the local economy through various creative activities.
"Istiqlal Mosque is not only a place of worship and a religious tourism destination, but it also holds great economic potential. I see an opportunity to further showcase this through content creators and the creative economy communities supported by Kemenekraf," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.

She affirmed that the Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to strengthen the creative ecosystem at Istiqlal Mosque through regular collaborations with content creators and creative economy communities. This initiative is expected to introduce engaging themes and enhance Indonesia's creative economy potential.
"We can bring creative communities here regularly with different themes each time. Many people think tourists only come to see the mosque, but there is much more they can experience. We need to strengthen marketing efforts so that visitors know what they can explore here," added Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene also welcomed the statement by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. Nasaruddin Umar, MA, who emphasized that Istiqlal Mosque can serve as a platform for creative economy players to contribute to Indonesia Emas 2045 (Golden Indonesia 2045).
"I am grateful that the Minister fully supports creative economy pioneers. We will move forward together, not individually, toward Indonesia Emas," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.
Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. Nasaruddin Umar, MA, further stated that the Ministry of Creative Economy can offer ideas and collaborate on utilizing various spaces within the Istiqlal Mosque.
"We welcome the Ministry of Creative Economy collaboration in utilizing several areas within Istiqlal Mosque, which spans over two hectares. This will allow us to create more opportunities for the creative industry," said Minister Nasaruddin.

It is hoped that this collaboration will introduce innovations in developing the creative economy and positively impact the local economy. With Ministry of Creative Economy support, Istiqlal Mosque can maximize its role as a hub for activities that benefit the community. Through this initiative, Istiqlal Mosque is expected to not only serve as a spiritual icon but also as a symbol of collaboration between religion, art, and the creative economy—strengthening Indonesia’s cultural identity on the global stage
