With the Spirit of Independence, Ministry of Creative Economy Confident Local IP Will Rise

Jakarta, 12 August 2025 — In celebration of the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar held an informal fireside chat on the development of local Intellectual Property (IP). The session also encouraged the growth of the national creative economy as the new engine of growth through innovation, capacity strengthening, and collaboration among local creators.

Wakil Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Irene Umar, dalam diskusi bersama IP lokal, Jakarta, Selasa (12/08/2025).

“We already have many extraordinary IPs—some that have gone global, and others not yet widely known but with tremendous potential. I am truly moved by the overwhelming enthusiasm. Within 12 hours of opening the registration, so many have joined, and the stickers you created have already been distributed all the way to the Red-and-White Cabinet,” said Deputy Minister Irene during the discussion at One Piece Café, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 12 August 2025.

Deputy Minister Irene Umar invited all stakeholders to collectively elevate local IPs such as Jumbo, Si Juki, and Tahilalats in celebrating Independence Day. This warm discussion served as a space to share stories and visions on how local IPs—long-standing pillars of Indonesia’s creative ecosystem—can contribute to the independence celebration and strengthen national identity in the lead-up to Golden Indonesia 2045.

According to Deputy Minister Irene, this year’s 17 August celebration is not only about people, but also about the fun and quirky IPs that bring the spirit of independence to life. She also emphasized the importance of creative resources and human capital development—an inexhaustible asset for the nation’s progress.

“There will be carnivals showcasing Indonesian creativity. This is the first step to ensure more people use and recognize local IPs as part of our identity,” said Deputy Minister Irene.

“Natural resources may run out, but creativity will not. We have seen collaborations such as Jumbo with the national railway and Tahilalats with the MRT, and this is only the beginning. Through digitalization and technological advancement, we will continue to strengthen the capacity of our creators so local IP can rise and go global. Together, we will build and advance local IP,” she added.

At the same event, Noudhy Valdryno, Deputy II for Dissemination and Media Information, Presidential Communication Office (PCO), warmly welcomed the momentum of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day as an opportunity to strengthen unity and sovereignty through creative works.

We are very optimistic that the creative economy sector will continue to grow and make a real contribution to the nation’s progress in this era of globalization,” he said.

Meanwhile, local IP owners in attendance expressed pride and strong enthusiasm for the support provided by the Ministry of Ekraf. They appreciated the openness and close collaboration fostered by the ministry, which made them feel welcomed and fully supported by the government.

Ahead of the 17 August celebration, all parties are optimistic that local IP will become increasingly recognized and remain a vital part of Indonesia’s dynamic, innovative, and future-oriented independence journey.

The fireside chat was also attended by representatives from the PCO, Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), Visinema, Desa Timun, Montabi, Wanaloka, Redmiller, Waroeng Widodo, as well as creators from Beemala and Tenka Street.
