Jakarta, 1 May, 2026 – The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy / Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, stated that women play a significant role in shaping the direction and values of the creative economy. She noted that around 60 percent of the creative sector is led by women, who contribute aesthetic perspectives while strengthening cross-functional collaboration.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, served as a speaker at the Srikandi Vol. 2 event titled “Women Shaping Creative Ecosystem” held at Lippo Mall Nusantara, Jakarta, Friday (1/5/2026).
“Everything that is creative is inherently beautiful. Women have the eye to recognize what is aesthetically pleasing, while men are equally needed to ensure that what is beautiful is also functional—that is the essence of the creative economy. In that sense, the creative economy can be considered one of the most gender-balanced industries,” said the Deputy Minister as keynote speaker at the Srikandi Vol. 2 event titled “Women Shaping Creative Ecosystem” at Lippo Mall Nusantara, Jakarta, Friday (1/5).
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister explained that women’s dominance is evident in several subsectors such as fashion, crafts, and culinary, while their participation is also increasingly visible in other sectors, including gaming, which has begun to produce high-achieving female talents at the international level. She emphasized that equality in the creative industry is reflected not only in participation but also in the ability to generate tangible economic impact.
“Creativity must be able to create added value and contribute to economic growth,” she added.
Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan, who also attended as a keynote speaker, stated that platforms such as Srikandi Vol. 2 enable collaboration between the Government, creative economy players, and the private sector, particularly in advancing women’s roles. She also highlighted the Care Economy program as a roadmap for the recognition, reduction, and redistribution (3R) of caregiving burdens to promote gender equality and increase women’s economic participation.

“With equal opportunities and spaces like this, we can move forward together. This means collaborating with the Ministry of Creative Economy to ensure that such spaces exist for women. The Care Economy program serves as a roadmap that we must develop to strengthen women’s capacity building, enabling access to work opportunities. At the same time, it also supports capacity building for caregivers,” she stated.
Srikandi Vol. 2 is an initiative by Lippo Mall Nusantara as a collaborative platform that brings together women in the creative industry, MSME players, and the lifestyle ecosystem within an integrated space. The event aims to strengthen networks while opening opportunities for cross-sector collaboration.
The event also featured several speakers, including Co-Founder of Setali Indonesia and Movement Builder in Sustainable Fashion Intan Anggita Pratiwie, Chairman of the Indonesian Floriculture Association Friesia Sutjiati Widjaja, and Founder of Fashion Crafty Jakarta & Creative Education Enabler Megasandra Simanjuntak.
