The world keeps moving fast. Lifestyles are changing, technology is developing, and people are adapting to the flow of change. In the middle of this movement, creativity has emerged as a new fuel that drives the economy. With its rich cultural diversity and abundant talent potential, Indonesia is now stepping toward an economy driven by innovation and ideas. Culture is no longer just a heritage to be preserved, but a source of inspiration that can be packaged, developed, and given economic value without losing its meaning. In the celebration of National Creative Economy Day 2025, this spirit is clearly seen through the creative economy as “the new engine of growth” for Indonesia’s economy.

Growing from Ideas and Creativity
Over the past few years, the creative economy has proven to be one of the most agile sectors in responding to changing times and surviving global challenges. Many creative players have successfully used ideas and technology to open new opportunities, from small businesses born in home garages to large industries that have entered global markets. The spirit of innovation has become the main key that keeps this sector growing.

More than just an annual celebration, this year’s National Creative Economy Day is a moment to reflect on the journey and progress of Indonesia’s creative economy. Since the pandemic hit several years ago, this industry has proven to be the most adaptive and resilient in facing crises. Creative economy players were able to see opportunities amid limitations by bringing in digital innovation and building cross-sector collaboration. From this, it is clear that the creative economy is not only a new source of income, but also proof that Indonesia can survive and grow through creativity.
Looking back, the establishment of National Creative Economy Day did not happen instantly. This commemoration came from the awareness that creativity plays a major role in driving the national economy. Starting in 2022, the National Creative Economy Movement (GEKRAFS) proposed to the government through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy the importance of having a National Creative Economy Day. The proposal was accepted, and the government eventually set October 24 as National Creative Economy Day. Since that moment, the spirit of building an economy based on innovation and ideas has grown stronger. Today, every Hekrafnas celebration feels like an “appreciation stage” for millions of creative players across Indonesia who continue to prove that creative works can be just as valuable as natural resources.

This year, the Ministry of Creative Economy is launching the “OktoberKreasi” campaign to welcome National Creative Economy Day 2025. The campaign aims to push the creative economy as a national economic growth engine that starts from the regions.
Drivers of the Creative Economy
Various sectors such as fashion, culinary, crafts, games, applications, music, and film are the main drivers of Indonesia’s creative economy. All of these sectors have great potential to boost exports, attract investment, create jobs, and contribute to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
In the fashion sector, for example, more and more local brands are emerging with original designs that combine cultural values and modern touches, and are even able to enter global markets. In the culinary field, business players are now using digital technology, attractive visual presentation, and lifestyle trends to expand their reach. The craft sector also continues to grow by presenting unique works that reflect cultural diversity and local identities.

Meanwhile, the game and application subsectors clearly show the rapid development of technology in the creative space. From here, many young talents have emerged, successfully creating high-value digital products and competing at the international level.
Equally important, the film and music industries also make major contributions to the growth of the creative economy. Through the creativity of its players, Indonesian works are increasingly recognized abroad, while strengthening the position of the creative economy as the new face of Indonesia’s economy on the global stage.

Creativity as a New Competitive Advantage
Creativity has now become a new resource that shapes Indonesia’s direction amid increasingly intense economic competition. Indonesia no longer relies only on natural resources or production-based industries, but is beginning to depend on creative innovation that is turned into economic strength. Creative economy players use innovative concepts to create unique products and experiences, while also strengthening national identity in the global market. Creativity creates a new, more sustainable competitive advantage that depends on human ability to innovate and adapt to the times.
Creative Market: A Space for Expression and Collaboration
From the big idea of competitiveness, creativity then appears in real form through various public activities organized by the ministry. One of them is Jakarta Innovation Days 2025, part of the #OktoberKreasi campaign. Within the JID 2025 program series, there is a Creative Market agenda held at the Dukuh Atas Multipurpose Pedestrian Bridge (JPM). This activity provides space for creative economy players from various subsectors to showcase their work and innovative ideas, while also showing real government support for the growth of Indonesia’s creative economy ecosystem.
More than just a promotional event, the Creative Market is a symbol of collaboration between the government, creative players, and the public. Its location in an integrated transportation area makes it easy to access and able to attract the attention of people passing by. This initiative also shows how public spaces can transform into centers of creative interaction that bring the spirit of an idea-based economy to life. In addition, the public not only enjoys the works on display, but also gets directly involved in creative activities that enliven the #OktoberKreasi campaign and spread positive energy through collaboration.
