On the occasion, the Minister observed how DossGuava XR Studio integrates XR technology within a single working ecosystem, relying on immersive technology as the backbone of its creative and audiovisual production processes. Beyond reviewing the direct application of XR technology in the national film industry, the Minister’s visit also formed part of efforts to strengthen synergy among creators, industry players, and stakeholders in advancing Indonesia’s animation subsector.

The Minister emphasized the importance of sustaining the creative ecosystem that has been built by industry players. “We want to continue developing what DossGuava XR Studio has been striving for all this time, along with its idealism for future generations. That is why I have also brought stakeholders here,” he said at DossGuava XR Studio, Pejaten, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (13/1/2026).

He further stressed that his presence was not solely to support the production of Pelangi di Mars, but also to open avenues for cross-sector collaboration. “Indonesian films must continue to succeed not only at home, but also globally, as one of the missions of the Ministry of Creative Economy is to bring Indonesian intellectual property to the international stage,” he stated.

Extended Reality (XR) is an umbrella term for immersive technologies that blend the physical and digital worlds, including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). DossGuava XR Studio is recognized as one of Indonesia’s pioneers in utilizing the Unreal Engine game engine for audiovisual production, enabling real-time integration of live action, CGI, and virtual sets.

Director of Pelangi di Mars, Upie Guava, described this technological approach as relatively new within Indonesia’s film production landscape. According to him, the filmmaking process combines motion-capture-based animation, game engines, visual effects (VFX), and XR technology. “Another distinguishing aspect is from the creative side. I tried to develop this film from the beginning using an IP-driven approach, meaning that from the filmmaking process we already considered the broader IP ecosystem,” he explained.

He added that the story development and world design were conceived with a long-term vision. “In terms of design, the universe we are building is not intended for just one film, but as a long-term IP. We already have short-, medium-, and long-term plans for the Pelangi di Mars universe, using a storytelling approach that resonates with today’s children,” he continued.

Also present during the visit were representatives from industry and strategic partners, including Producer of Pelangi di Mars and Founder & CEO of Mahakarya Dendi Reynando; VP Investments of Danantara Davin Irnevanda; SVP Corporate Affairs of Sinar Mas Land Panji Himawan; VP of Production of Mahakarya Dian Fernando; VP of Marketing & Partnership of Mahakarya Ainu Rofiq; Director of DossGuava XR Studio Riyalta Rali Putra; and Assistant VP Investment Della Pidanti Nareswari.
